HM Sultan Qaboos was welcomed by HM The Queen who hosted a banquet in the Sultan’s honour at Buckingham Palace, received by the Prime Minister, Mrs Thatcher at No.10 Downing Street and himself hosted a return banquet at Claridges Hotel in honour of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
A major joint geographical investigation took place in the Eastern Sands in the winter 1985/86.
The festival was held throughout Oman during February 1989 to celebrate and further encourage the historical relationship. It involved educational, economic, cultural and sporting activities, and had as its centrepiece one of the largest all-British Trade Exhibitions of recent years. With over 400 participants from Britain, the festival demonstrated both the breadth and quality of the relationship between the two nations.
