Eoin Keith, Winner of UTMB Oman 2019 - London

Eoin Keith will visit the Society to discuss his phenomenal win in the 170km UTMB Oman 2019 race, finishing in a time of 36 hours and 4 minutes.

Over 3 exciting days of competition, nearly 2000 runners from over 60 countries compete in either the 50km, 130km or the ultra-trail 170km race. The runners are immersed in the natural beauty of Oman’s dramatic interior, taking them through deep wadis, high ridges, ancient villages, and more than 2,200M of elevation gain onto Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountain. The Green Mountain is famed for its rose water, refreshing cooler climate and fruit orchards, which are typically laid out in terraces on the mountain slopes, endowed with natural springs and falaj. The runners' journey leads them off the beaten tourist tracks, allowing them to explore the Sultanate’s hidden gems that are located deep within its rugged, untouched landscapes. The 130km mountain course is hailed by National Geographic as the ‘world’s toughest adventure race’. The ultra-trail route extends over the summit of Jebel Shams (3000m - the highest mountain in Arabia) to cover even more stunning terrain. Providing a long course of 170km with over 10,000+m of vertical gain, this is undoubtedly one of the toughest and most technically challenging in the world.

Eoin Keith is an Irish ultra runner who currently holds the Irish records for 24 hour running (248.4km), 48 hour road running (343km) and 6 day running (815km), along with many course records for Irish ultras. He holds the world record for the fastest crossing of Ireland on Foot, running from Mizen Head to Malin Head in 3 days, 3 hours, 47 minutes in May 2017. He also won the Spine Race in 2016 (setting a course record). He is a multiple winner of the Irish 24 hour Running Championships, and has been awarded the Athletics Ireland Ultrarunner of the year on 4 occasions (the only person to win this award more than once).
