Oman’s Foreign Policy: a Forward Look

Abdullah Baabood

Abdullah is currently a visiting professor at the Middle Institute, National University of Singapore. He has previously held the positions of the Director of the Gulf Studies Centre at Qatar University and the Director of the Gulf Research Centre at Cambridge University. Abdullah’s teaching and research interest focus on the GCC states and their economic, social and political development as well as their external relations. He is a regular speaker at the British Omani Society.

Anoush Ehteshami

Anoush is Professor of International Relations in the School of Government and International Affairs, Durham University. He is also the Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah Chair in International Relations and Director of the HH Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah Programme in International Relations, Regional Politics and Security. He is, further, Director of the Institute for Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies (IMEIS) at Durham, one of the oldest and noted centres of excellence in Middle Eastern studies in Europe. He acts as Co-director (2016-2021) of the £3.9 million AHRC-funded Open Worlds Initiative entitled Cross-Language Dynamics: Reshaping Community. He last spoke at the British Omani Society in 2018 in the ‘Oman and its Neighbours’ series.

Helen Lackner

Helen has worked in all parts of Yemen since the 1970s and lived there for close to 15 years. She has written about the country’s political economy as well as social and economic issues. She works as a freelance rural development consultant in Yemen and elsewhere. Her recent books include 'Yemen in Crisis, the road to war' (Verso, 2019), US Paperback updated version of Yemen in Crisis: autocracy, neo-liberalism and the disintegration of a state (Saqi, London, 2017). She was winner of the 2018 'Grand Prix de la Recherche' section of the Grand Prix of Literary Associations and the Luce Fellow at Durham University in 2016.
