British Omani Society, 34 Sackville St, London W1S 3ED, UK

For our November lecture the British Omani Society is pleased to host Ciarán Ó Cuinn on November 11 for a talk entitled 'Muscat, Madrid & Ulster: the MEDRC model of using water for multilateral peace'. MEDRC is an International Organization mandated to find solutions to fresh water scarcity. Established in 1996 as part of the Middle East Peace Process it conducts research, training, development cooperation and transboundary water projects. The MEDRC Headquarters is in Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman, where it operates a state of the art research facility including desalination plants, laboratories, lecture halls and administrative offices.

Ciarán Ó Cuinn is Director and Head of Mission at MEDRC, a multilateral international organisation headquartered in Muscat mandated to assist the Middle East Peace Process by using water as a tool for peace. He is a specialist in public policy, peace processes and international relations. For more than a decade he was principal ministerial policy adviser at three Irish government departments focusing on the Irish Peace Process. He worked on projects as diverse as the development of a single All-Island Energy Market, formal negotiations between the main parties and the development of conflict resolution initiatives to help capture the lessons learned from the Irish context for peace processes elsewhere.
