On Thursday the 21st of November, The British Omani Society hosted Deena Al Asfoor, a part-time PhD student at St Catherine’s College, Oxford University and an adviser for the Ministry of Health in Oman. Deena gave a lecture on ‘The State of Women in Oman: Past, Present and Future’ by exploring a vast number of topics. Her lecture looked at key Omani women in politics and history, the current status of Omani women in statistics and the changing role of Omani women and how this will impact the future of the country. Deena concluded her lecture with a central message that, despite cultural challenges, more Omani women should be proactive and take advantage of Oman’s education and economic environment. We thank Deena Al Asfoor for coming to the Society to give us an insightful lecture!
