Energy Trade Mission to Muscat

BOS

November 21 2022

From the 16th to the 18th of October, a UK-Oman Investment Mission took place at the Grand Hyatt in Muscat. There was a strong level of engagement, from companies' UK-based representatives, their Oman-based representatives (via the British Business Forum), and from Omani companies. Please find copies of the presentations further down this page, just above the photos.

Sunday 16th opened with a welcome by Michael Eyley, Director of Trade & Investment at the British Embassy. The audience then heard from Petrofac, Addleshaw Goddard, Sohar International Bank and Business Gateways. Attendees from the UK then enjoyed a visit to the National Museum of Oman, sponsored by BP, and a networking reception was held in the Hyatt's John Barry Bar that evening.

HE Bill Murray, the UK's Ambassador to Oman, opened the programme on Monday, followed by addresses by HE Qais Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, and Sir Alan Duncan, representing the British Omani Society. A panel discussion then took place on investment and sustainability in Oman's ports and freezones, followed by a presentation by UK Export Finance and a panel discussion on renewables and decarbonisation. Before lunch, UK attendees were given the opportunity to outline their activities. This included fantastic presentations by Storegga, Sumitomo, Q5 Partners, Pannell Hayes, EIC and Kent Consulting. A final daytime session then took place on the role of ports and freezones in facilitating the green climate change FDI, moderated by Hama Al Mamari of Asyad. Participants then attended a reception at the UK Ambassador's Residence.

On the final day, participants were offered a site visit to Sohar Port and Freezone, and given an overview of the decarbonisation projects and port/freezone facilities. Some attendees organised meetings with those they networked with on the trade mission, to take the next steps towards productive collaboration between the UK and Oman.

Thank you to all the delegates, to the British Embassy in Muscat for organising the mission, to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and to the Grand Hyatt, Muscat.
