Death of Sultan Qaboos
The Society has learned with great sadness of the death of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Saʿid, leader of his people for the past 50 years. His reign has seen unparalleled advances in Oman’s society and in its prosperity, and during this period His Majesty has been a vital influence for good in promoting the stability of the Gulf region. Sultan Qaboos contributed in many ways to strengthening and deepening the relationship between Britain and Oman, to the great benefit of the peoples of both countries. His passing is a loss to us all. We send our most sincere condolences to the family of His Majesty and to the people of Oman on their loss together with our warmest good wishes to Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq, the new Sultan, as he takes the country forward.
A book of condolence is being opened at the Headquarters of the Society, 34 Sackville Street, London W1S 3ED, and will be available for signature during normal office hours.
