Student Volunteers Oman Scheme

The Student Volunteers Oman Scheme is based at The Sultan’s School in Muscat and is open to British nationals, who are either school leavers or who plan a gap year between graduation and first employment.

The scheme offers generous benefits and a memorable experience. Each year two groups of up to four students go to the school for a period of three months between September - December and January - March.

The scheme provides the opportunity to become part of the school community, and to contribute to school life according to the talents and interests of the individual – whether as a classroom assistant, in the CAS programme of the International Baccalaureate or in extracurricular activities such as sport and music. Participants are also given a fantastic opportunity to explore the country's natural beauty, by taking part in outdoor excursions, including treking and camping trips to Oman's mountains, beaches and desert.

The school is predominantly a mixed day school but about fifty male students board in the school under a scholarship scheme established by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. There is the opportunity to be involved with the boarders in their sporting and leisure activities. Further details may be obtained at http://www.sultansschool.org

The school provides accommodation and meals. Other benefits include airfares, shared car hire and part cost of Arabic tuition. A ‘pocket money’ allowance is intended to cover day-to-day expenses but also the cost of meals during the short periods (school and national holidays) when the school cafeteria is closed.

The next Student Volunteer Oman Scheme dates are:

  • 2024 dates: Fri 13 Sept (arrive) - Thurs 12 Dec (leave)
  • 2025 dates: Fri 10 Jan (arrive) - Thurs 10 April (leave)
