Colonel (Retd) Gordon Allen QGM WKhM(G)

Trustee

Gordon Allen took early retirement from the British Army in 2000 after over 30 years of service.  Much of his early career was spent between Germany and Northern Ireland. He served on loan service in Oman from 1975-1976, working with Omani, Jordanian and Iranian forces. Senior appointments covered operational and contingency planning in the Middle East in the Ministry of Defence and serving as a member of the directing staff at the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

During his final tour he studied for a MBA at the Open University. After leaving the Army he enjoyed ten years in turnaround, outsourcing and consulting within the financial services and public sectors. Following two years as COO of Liberata UK he focused on short-term consulting roles, advising Cardiff City Council and the Welsh Assembly Government.

He joined the Sultan’s Armed Forces Association in 1998, first re-visiting Oman in 2010.  Witnessing the development of the intervening thirty five years was cathartic and inspiring.  He joined the committee in 2016 and was appointed Chairman in December 2022.  He is committed to honouring the wish of Oman’s leadership that the traditions and ethos of the Association should pass to the next generation. There is much common ground in the aspirations and objectives of both the Association and the British Omani Society, and he was delighted to be invited to become a Trustee and to have the opportunity to further the close links between both organisations.

He is a passionate sailor, married and lives in Shropshire.
