Welcome to our New Staff

BOS

May 31 2023

2023 saw the Society welcome two new staff members, Rosa Braune and Alexander Ward. As well as intern Asma Ibrahim.

Our new Communications Manager, Rosa, joined the Anglo Omani Society in May 2023. Her previous experience includes leading communications for the A.M. Qattan Foundation’s UK arts project The Mosaic Rooms, Shubbak festival of contemporary Arab culture, and working in the Creative Economy team at the British Council. She has also worked in academia, with research scientists at the University of Cambridge, and with commercial art galleries and auction houses in the UK and New Zealand.

She has an undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Nottingham and an MA in Arts Management, specialising in marketing for cultural organisations, from Birkbeck, University of London. She looks forward to bringing her experience to the British Omani Society and learning more about the fascinating country of Oman.

Alex joined the Society as Business Opportunities Manager at the Omani British Business Council (OBBC) in March 2023. He is responsible for promoting commercial relationships, developing bilateral trade and investment along with other economic partnerships between the Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom. He first began his working life in Corporate Finance within a Fortune 500 global firm after graduating from university where he worked in the international tax, group reporting and internal management reporting teams.

He graduated from the University of Warwick with a degree in Accounting and Finance and whilst there, decided to learn Arabic alongside his degree and had reached intermediate level upon graduation. Furthermore, he spent time studying abroad at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul where he learnt Turkish and achieved a 4.0 GPA, Bentley University in Boston where he studied Corporate Finance and Business and at Institut d'études politiques de Paris (SciencesPo) in France where he studied Business, Economics and Diplomacy.

We would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you and إلى اللقاء (see you soon) to Dina Macki, the Society’s former Communications Manager, who finished working with us in May of this year. Dina is now pursuing her culinary projects, including her new Omani cookbook (more on this to come) and blog dinewithdina.co.uk, as well as her consultancy work. We are very grateful for the huge contribution she has made to the Society over the past 5 years.
